Understanding How Drones Work and Its Technology — If you are new to this kind of hobby. Let us tell you about what is a drone and how does this thing work. Moreover, drone is a technology that is constantly evolving. Every year it has a new innovation and more advanced drones are made and sold in the market every now and then.

Drone is an unmanned aircraft that is made of light complex materials. This is to reduce the weight and increase its maneuverability. What’s more is that, the composite strength of the material does allow military drones to cross against extreme high altitudes. Furthermore, drones are armed with different technology, like infrared camera (used in the military), GPS and laser (military UAV). Also, drones can be controlled by using a remote control system or a cockpit ground.

In fact, drones come in different variety of sizes, while large drones are basically used by the military like the Predator drone. There are also smaller drones that can be launched by hand. Moreover, unmanned aerial vehicle system has 2 different parts, the drone and its control system. The unmanned aerial vehicle has all the sensors and navigational systems located the nose. While the rest of its body is complete with innovation. That’s why there is no space for human to accommodate and it is also light weight.

What is a Drone — An UAV Technology

Understanding How Drones Work and Its Technology

Below we will be listing down the science and the technology of a drone. These will give you an understanding how drones work and its technology if you’re not familiar with it.

Radar Positioning and Return Home:

  • The drones flight radar displays the current position and the location of the drones for the pilot to see.
  • When exceeding the control range of the drone’s remote control, it will trigger the “Return-To-Home” feature. This means the UAV will automatically return to where it takeoff and it will land safely.

IMU, Flight Controllers, and Gyro Stabilization:

Moreover, the gyro stabilization technology is the components which gives the drone its smooth flight proficiency. Also, gyroscope needs to work instantly to force the moving against the drones. Furthermore, gyroscope also provides the essential navigational information to the central of the flight controller.

What’s more is that, the inertial measurement unit of IMU works by recognizing the current rate of the drones acceleration  by using one or more accelerometers. It detects the changes of the rotational attributes such as pitch, roll and yaw by using one or more gyroscopes. There are some IMU that includes magnetometer so it can assist the calibration on the orientation drift. Also, the Gyroscope is a part of the IMU and is also a main part of the drones flight controller. In fact, the flight controller is the primary brain of the drone.

The “NO Fly Zone Drone Technology”

In addition, the Phantom AUV series includes a “No Fly Zone Feature”. This feature will increase your safety while flying your drone and it also prevents accidental flights in restricted areas. Moreover, the “No Fly Zones” are divided into two different categories which is A and B.

  • When flying an unmanned aircraft within the radius of 15-mile inner ring is by prohibited without specific FAA authorization.

Furthermore, flying a UAS for competitive or non-competitive use between 15 & 30 miles away from Washington DC is allowed under these conditions:

  • The aircraft must only weigh less that 55lbs (including the camera)
  • Also, it must be registered and marked
  • It must only fly below 400ft
  • You should never fly near another aircraft
  • Fly within the visual line of sight
  • Fly in a clear weather conditions
